PATIENT PROFILE

People that wish a better-looking gluteus but cannot be improved with other procedures.

It is frequent on mature women, but also in men and after diets with big weight loss.

Also in women that wish to wear a swimsuit and show their legs and gluteus even if they present a scar that is hidden with the underwear like in an abdominoplasty or a dermo lipectomy.

PROCEDURE

This procedure is made through an incision that does not surpass the intergluterine fold limit, in other words, the vertical fold between the buttocks cheeks. Sometimes it is made through a horizontal incision, like in a dermo lipectomy or abdominoplasty but in the gluteal zone, at the underwear high, hided by the underpants, and sometimes through an incision under each butt cheek.

Sometimes muscular fascia rotations can be done like a method to elevate and support muscle and fat fall on the zone. This anchorage enables elevating and projecting the area in a more adequate way, contributing to firmness and projection to the gluteus. Gluteus lifting can be complemented with fat grafts and small intramuscular prosthesis that even project more the contour if it is wished.

Frequently asked questions about buttocks

How can I improve the appearance of my buttocks?

The buttocks are a very important part of both men and women. Some patients, more frequent men, may present true hypotrophy or lack of development of this area and require a gluteoplasty to improve the shape and volume of this body area, either through shape adjustments, implants or lipoinjection. In women it is more common to remove cellulite and elevate the buttocks.

What is the candidate for gluteoplasty?

The gluteoplasty is indicated in patients who wish to improve the volume and projection of the buttocks. Some individuals find a certain disproportion in the shape of their buttocks, which can be corrected with different techniques. In the same way, this treatment is suitable for those people who for reasons of aging, present loss of turgidity, excess fat or tissue drooping.

What are the procedures in buttocks surgery?

In Clínica Sanza we individualize each patient to offer the best treatment taking into account aspects such as height, weight of the patient, bone structure, pelvis and thighs. We evaluate the areas where there is little projection, flaccidity or excess fat, and thus determine if it is required the placement of buttock implants, liposuction, lipoinjection, lipolaser, thread tensioners or gluteus lifting.

How’s the procedure?

In general, any procedure is performed in the operating room under local anesthesia and sedation, or if the case requires it, under general anesthesia or epidural. The patient on the operating table is placed face down, so that we can work comfortably in the area and maintain symmetry.

How long does the surgery take?

The procedure, depending on the technique to be used, is performed on average in an interval between 1 to 4 hours.

Is hospitalization necessary?

We recommend admission for 1 day, for the patient’s comfort, not really for medical requirements, but during the first 24 hours it is not recommended to lie on your back. Sometimes we recommend 2 or 3 days on buttock lifts.

What are gluteal implants and what type of prosthesis are there?

Gluteal implants are synthetic elements that improve or correct the shape of the buttocks when they are inserted. There are different types of gluteal implants, of different volumes and dimensions. Buttock implants are made of a silicone elastomer shell that is also filled with silicone, usually round or oval in shape, with a textured or smooth surface. Very similar to breast prostheses, but more consistent.

When to think about liposuction of the buttocks? Or lipolaser?

Lipolaser, vaserlipo and liposculpture are synonymous. The 3 techniques allow the fat cells (adipocytes) to be extracted from the areas we wish to contour in order to obtain the buttocks we desire. Normally you want to eliminate cellulite, flaccidity and leave a smoother buttocks, like a gym.

When should I think about a butt lift?

When excess skin caused by a significant flaccidity cannot be retracted by another procedure such as lipolaser, a butt lift allows the buttocks to be tightened and elevated to the ideal height.

When are threads useful in buttocks?

When we are in front of a buttock, whether a man or a woman, who is smooth and young, well formed but fallen we can elevate it by means of tension threads, without the need to go through a prosthesis surgery or gluteal lifting. It is a good option to elevate those sagging buttocks, but not flaccid or with excess skin.

How are threads made in the buttocks?

They are introduced through local anesthesia or sedation through special needles that already come with the tensioning threads. These needles are passed from the intergluteal fold, i.e., above the line separating the two buttocks to each side. We usually pass from 4 to 8 threads on each side, depending on the size or elevation we want to do. Once the threads have been passed, we do not tighten them, but leave them under the skin for about 3 or 4 months. After this time we recommend stretching them and re-tensioning them. We place local anesthesia in the upper intergluteal area where we have left the ends of all the threads and from there we re-tension them again.

What can I expect after surgery?

After surgery, the patient may feel somewhat uncomfortable with mild pain. This discomfort is controlled by the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories. The bandage along with the drains will be left in place for the first 24 hours and swelling may persist for some time. It is necessary to lie on your stomach for the first 24 hours, and then gradually resume normal activities. We advise according to each technique, the postoperative can be from 24h to 1 or 2 weeks. Then lean on the sides at bedtime until the swelling gradually subsides.
