Otoplasty, torn, aged and hanging earlobes
The plastic surgery of torn, aged and hanging lobes at Clínica Sanza in Barcelona consists of a simple operation whose purpose is to surgically repair the lobes torn by earrings or dilators. It is also performed to rejuvenate large, sagging lobes that appear with age or due to genetics.
WHERE DO WE PERFORM THE OPERATIONS?
At Clínica Sanza we rely on the Sagrat Cor Hospital, part of the Quirónsalud group, to perform our surgical procedures.
Its prestige, facilities, medical and sanitary personnel, as well as its technology endorse it.
PATIENT PROFILE
People with a distended or torn lobe, generally due to the use of earrings.
Young people, especially boys, with very large or very detached lobes.
Elderly people whose earlobes hang down too much and are aesthetically discomforting.
PROCEDURE
Often, wearing earrings causes tearing of the earlobe and enlargement of the hole in one or both ears. If this tear is very large, a complete tear may occur and the earlobe may be split in two.
The repair is simple and painless. Aged or broken skin is removed and replaced with strong, tough, young skin from the same lobes. In this way, we not only stitch the lobe but also strengthen and rejuvenate it so that it does not happen again.
To perform this procedure, 2 or 3 very fine stitches are usually placed.

Frequently asked questions about earlobe surgery - torn earlobe
What is the torn lobe?
The torn earlobe is that tearing produced by the weight of the earrings or by a sudden pull with exaggerated enlargement of the earlobe opening and in some cases even the total tearing dividing the earlobe in two. We also see it in patients who have used dilators and wish to remove them.
What is the procedure for repairing the torn lobe like?
It is a simple procedure that we perform at Clinica Sanza. We fix under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis, the tear by removing a little skin to join both separated parts and leaving a scar that is barely visible or invisible. This procedure is very similar to the reduction of very prominent lobes.
How long does the procedure take?
It is a procedure that lasts approximately 30 minutes, and you can leave immediately and go about your daily activities, including wearing earrings from the same day.
What is the postoperative period like?
The recovery is very fast with immediate incorporation to work, just take a few stitches in the earlobe that will be removed after approximately 10 days.
Can men do it?
Yes, it is becoming more and more frequent in men who wish to remove piercings or dilators and leave the lobes as they were before having used them.
