PATIENT’S PROFILE

People with loosely distended or usually loosened by the use of slopes.

Young, especially boys, with very large lobes or very detached.

Elderly people who are heavily lobed and aesthetically upset.

PROCEDURE

Often, the use of earrings causes the ear lobe to tear and the hole to become larger in one ear or in both. If this tear is very large, a complete tear can occur and the earlobe split into two.

The repair is simple and not painful. It removes the aged skin or broken skin, and it’s replaced with strong and young skin from the same lobes. In this way, we not only sew the lobe but reinforce and rejuvenate it so that it does not happen again.

To perform this procedure, 2 or 3 very fine stitches are usually placed.

Frequently asked questions about ears surgery - torn lobe

What is a torn lobe?

A torn ear lobe is a tear caused by the weight of the earrings or by a sudden pull with exaggerated enlargement of the orifice of the earlobe and in some cases even a total tear by dividing the earlobe in two. We also see it in patients who have used dilators and wish to remove them.

How is the torn lobe repair procedure?

It is a simple procedure that we perform at Clínica Sanza. We perform it under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis, the removing a little skin to bring both parts together and leaving a scar little visible or invisible. This procedure is very similar to the reduction of very prominent lobes.

How long does the procedure take?

It is a procedure that takes about 30 minutes, and then you can leave and perform daily activities, including wearing earrings from the same day.

How’s the post-op?

The recovery is very fast with no need to take days off from work, simply taking few stitches in the ear lobe that we will remove after approximately 10 days.

Can men do it?

Yes, it is increasingly common for men who want to remove piercings or dilators and leave the lobes as before wearing them.
