Currently, hyaluronic acid has positioned itself as one of the most effective and most commonly used techniques against ageing, resulting in a skin without wrinkles, with an smoother, brighter and more youthful appareance.
What is hyaluronic acid?
It is a protein which is founded naturaly in our body. Especially in the skin called dermis. But also in other places such as cartilage, joints and muscle fibers. By being within our tissues, it does not generate rejection and it does not require allergy tests prior to its administration.
Hyaluronic acid has a great ability to retain water, giving skin firmness and moisture.
All hyaluronic acids have the property of being resorbable, viscoelastic, biocompatible and non-immunogenic.
As we age we lose the capacity of producing hyaluronic acid, in such a way that the skin does not retain water as efficiently as in youth. As a result there will be a loss of the skin volume and appearance of wrinkles.
Which are the benefits of hyaluronic acid?
- It moisturizes and adds volume, as it has de ability to absorb 1000 times its weight in water
- It stimulates the production of collagen by stimulating the fibroblasts
- It has acts as an antioxidant by aiding the elimination of free radicals
- It improves the processes of skin regeneration and healing.
Which types of hyaluronic acid do we use in aesthetic medicine?
There are 2 types of hyaluronic acid depending on the desired results:
- Not cross-linked hyaluronic acid
- Cross-linked hyaluronic acid
Crosslink makes reference to the degree of cross-linking that hyaluronic acid molecules have, which allow the total customization of treatments, depending on if we want to moisturize, soften, or give volume more or less durable to some facial areas. We will explain it later.
1 – ACID HYALURONIC NON CROSS-LINKED
Its structure is linear. It is distributed freeform, without being attached to each other. Is less dense than reticulated hyaluronic acid, and it’s applied to more superficial skin layers.
It can be applied isolated or combined with vitamins and antioxidants.
It is suitable for:
- Thin wrinkles correction
- Moisturize and revitalize the skin
- Cover up eye bags
- Improve the turgidity and elasticity of the skin
- Stimulate the production of collagen and elastin
2 – CROSS-LINKED HYALURONIC ACID
This type of hyaluronic acid presents 3D mesh network which allows creating volumes and support structures.
Its application is at deep levels of the skin.
It is suitable for:
- Fill skin grooves and deep wrinkles (nasolabial furrow, marionette lines)
- Correct cheekbones volume
- Add volume and contour lips
- Correct nose flaws
- Profile the angle of the jaw and chin.

Depending on the type of hyaluronic acid used, the effects last around 6 to 12 months. At Clinica Sanza we use the best in the market.
Is there an antidote, in case I do not like the result?
