Scalp lifting

Video subtitled in English

The scalp lifting treatment at Clínica Sanza in Barcelona consists of performing a superficial scalp lift with the aim of covering the alopecic areas of the crown and sides, or enlarging the micrograft donor area in cases where it is scarce.

It is also done in patients who wish to advance the first hairline, i.e. reduce a very clear forehead.

WHERE DO WE PERFORM THE OPERATIONS?

At Clínica Sanza we rely on the Sagrat Cor Hospital, part of the Quirónsalud group, to perform our surgical procedures.

Its prestige, facilities, medical and sanitary personnel, as well as its technology endorse it.

PATIENT PROFILE

Normally, men with AGA (androgenic alopecia) on the crown of the head or any patient who has suffered an accident with loss of the scalp in the occipital area.

Men or women who wish to reduce the hairless space between the eyebrows and the beginning of the hair, i.e. the forehead.

You can see cases of this surgery procedure in the photos below.

Frequently asked questions about scalp lifting

What is scalp lifting?

A scalp lift, also called a scalp reduction, is a surgical hair restoration procedure that removes the alopecic areas (areas of baldness) and stretches the hair-bearing scalp forward to replace the hairless areas.

Who is a candidate for a scalp lift?

Although Clinica Sanza carries out the most avant-garde techniques of hair micro-grafts which allow us great results, there are certain types of patients for whom scalp reduction or hair lifting is an excellent alternative highly recommended to cover both the crown and the entries of hair and bring forward the first line of hair in very unstuck foreheads.

Can the scalp lift be used on scarred areas?

Yes, the scalp lift is a good option in cases where you want to eliminate an alopecic scar area in some area of the head. Exceptionally, the reduction of alopecia, in certain patients with scars or sequelae of injuries or accidents, can be performed using a scalp expander, a technique that stretches the skin of the scalp that has hair to provide greater coverage in areas with bald patches.

Can scalp lifting be combined with micro hair grafting or any other procedure?

Yes. In certain patients, scalp reduction or scalp lift is a very effective hair restoration method that can be performed as a single procedure to remove bald areas or in combination with hair micrografts to achieve the desired aesthetic effect and occasionally in combination with other cosmetic surgery procedures such as brow or forehead lift.

When can I resume my normal activities after a scalp lift?

It depends on the extent of the procedure, although usually after 4-5 days the most usual daily activities can be performed, and after a month you can do all kinds of physical exercise and sports.

What is the procedure for performing a scalp lift?

The scalp lift is an outpatient procedure, i.e. does not require hospitalization, is performed under local anesthesia and mild sedation, can last between 1 to 2 hours depending on the extent, the removal of stitches is carried out 10 to 15 days after the intervention. We peel off the capillary zone and advance it to cover the alopecic or hairless area.

Is a scalp lift a painful procedure?

No, precisely the key to this type of surgery is to perform it minimizing the tension to preserve the hair, so the inflammation is minimal and any discomfort is transitory and easily controlled with an anti-inflammatory and a mild analgesic.

Why do some people believe that the scalp lift is in disuse?

Lack of information and the emergence of certain trends give rise to this erroneous opinion. The scalp lift is a technique that has been modified over time and in which we use increasingly refined materials and sutures, so that the results are infinitely better than those achieved a few years ago, and although hair micrografting techniques have also improved and are the first choice for certain types of patients, the hair lift remains, alone or in combination with hair grafts, an excellent alternative for specific patient groups.

The disadvantage is that it must be performed in the operating room and the price is higher than the grafts, but the result is better to get more hair density than can be achieved with micro grafts, either with the technique of FUE or FUS.
