PROCEDURE

It is performed under local anesthesia (as when we go to the dentist). It consists of opening inside the mucosa of the upper lip, lower lip or both, if necessary. The labial mucosa is then retracted and sutured so that the lips are in perfect condition.

What does lip thinning refer to?

Lip reduction is a simple surgical procedure in which we remove excess lip volume, upper, lower or both, to give a more aesthetic and natural appearance.

Who should have a lip reduction?

Any patient who does not agree with the volume or shape of the lip, whether it is the case of a lip that is naturally large or lips that have been injected with substances, usually permanent silicone type, biopolymers or other substances that leave their mark on the lip tissues, deforming them and giving an unsightly and unnatural appearance.

Why do some girls have lips like "black puddings" or like a duck's mouth?

One of the probable causes is that permanent materials such as biopolymers or silicones have been placed on the lips and, with the passage of time, have shifted to the sides of the lips or accumulated to form lumps, which gives the characteristic appearance of two lipsticks that are so unsightly.

Does this duck's mouth have a solution?

Yes. By performing a lip reduction, it is possible to totally or partially eliminate the foreign substances in the lip, restoring the natural proportion to each of the areas.

How soon will I be able to speak normally after lip reduction?

Once the intervention has been performed, you can talk, but do not laugh loudly or gesticulate too much. There are patients who undergo a small reduction and others who undergo a much larger reduction or in different areas. In any case, once the lip is deflated, you will be able to gesture and eat normally, this may take 3 to 5 days after surgery.

Will I lose lip sensitivity if I have a reduction?

No, although there may be a temporary decrease in sensitivity and mobility, this depends on the extent of the reduction, but usually after 5 to 10 days the lip has recovered.

Is there a need for stitches in a lip reduction?

Yes, although these stitches are reabsorbable, that is, they do not need to be removed, although occasionally they can be removed once the lip is healed without waiting for them to fall out on their own, and this is after 7-10 days.

How complicated is it to remove silicone from the lips?

It is performed under local anesthesia or sedation (like that of the dentist), lasts about an hour and once finished you can go home peacefully. It is not complicated for us.
