Submentoplasty

Submentoplasty is a surgery that aims to rejuvenate the appearance of the face and neck. It combines neck liposuction, which removes excess fat under the chin (jowls), with treatment of the platysma muscle of the neck, eliminating the skin that hangs under the jaw and ages the face.
If over the years you notice the appearance of jowls or excess skin that gives you a complex, and you wish to regain a defined jawline, then you are a good candidate for one or a combination of these two minimally invasive neck contouring procedures. The results are immensely gratifying as you can see in the before and after photos below.
Submentoplasty and neck liposuction redefine the chin and jawline.
Neck liposuction removes the “jowls” that form with age and restores youthful definition to the jawline. Submentoplasty removes prominent neck muscle bands and fatty tissue under the chin. Both procedures also tighten loose neck skin and improve neck contours.

The neck lift operation or jowl lift is a surgical treatment that we perform at Clínica Sanza Barcelona. It consists of the replacement of muscle, fat and skin that have fallen with age or major weight loss. Just as the face can be greatly improved with medical-aesthetic treatments, the neck can only be improved with plastic surgery. The day there is a non-surgical treatment to lift sagging breasts, then there will be a treatment to improve a sagging neck. The rest is all deceit.

PATIENT PROFILE
People, both men and women, who have a very thick neck (double chin) or a very sagging neck, and who wish to rejuvenate the appearance of their face.
Very frequent in men who find it difficult or uncomfortable to shave or who wish to highlight the jaw contour and Adam’s apple.
Women who wish to have a firm and smooth neck, i.e. elegant and clean.
SURGERY PROCEDURE
It involves making a small incision adjacent to the natural crease under the chin. The skin in the region under the chin is lifted in order to remove any excess fatty tissue in this area.
Any prominent muscle bands under the chin are returned to their more youthful midline location.
The incisions are closed in layers with dissolvable sutures.
DURATION OF THE OPERATION

PROTOCOL
Preoperative
- Evaluation of skin flaccidity, excess fat and patient’s desires.
- Follow specific guidelines determined by the doctor
- CBC and tests on cardiac and respiratory status
Anesthesia
- Local and sedation, or general
Hospitalization
- Outpatient or 1 day of admission after surgery
Postoperative
- Bandage of the face for 1 or 2 days.
- After the bandage, depending on the patient, a chin brace must be worn for 7 to 10 days.
- Medication prescribed by the doctor
- No sports or sweating until 15 to 30 days after surgery.
- Mandatory check-ups for about 30 days after the operation
Convalescence
- 1 to 2 weeks
- After the aesthetic surgery of submentoplasty, no sports or sweating should be done until 30 days after the operation.
RESULTS
