WHAT IS RHINOPHYMA SURGERY?
Rhinophyma is a disease that affects the skin of the nose as a consequence of the obstruction of the sebaceous glands, resulting in a progressive thickening of the nasal skin with redness and cyst formation.
Predisposing factors: Severe rosacea, solar involvement, stress, infections and alcohol consumption.
It appears more frequently in men between 50-70 years of age and is a chronic disease that cannot be cured if left untreated.

PATIENT PROFILE
People with nasal enlargement, redness and cysts, probably due to severe rosacea.
Surgery can be performed at any age, but severe rhinophyma is more frequent after the age of 50.
SURGERY PROCEDURE
This operation consists of surgically decorticating (removing) all the affected skin with an electroscalpel and leaving an occlusive dressing (gauze) with regenerative cream.
This healing will remain for the first 2 weeks and then will be changed depending on the healing process.
DURATION OF THE OPERATION

PROTOCOL
Preoperative
- Evaluation of the area to determine the extent of surgery and the type of technique required.
- Follow specific guidelines determined by the doctor
- CBC and tests on cardiac and respiratory status
Anesthesia
- It is usually performed under sedation anesthesia supplemented with local anesthesia in the area of the incisions.
Hospitalization
- Ambulatory, no overnight stay in the hospital
Postoperative
- We do not leave points
- Bandage on the surgical site for 1-2 weeks afterwards
- The patient must attend the first week every 2-3 days to control the wound and apply regenerative cream, then he/she will do it at home according to medical indications.
- Medication if required
- Mandatory revisions after a few days, weeks and months, depending on requirements
Convalescence
- One week of rest from light activities
- Two weeks without gaining weight
- Physical exercise can be resumed 3 weeks after surgery and gradually; one month after surgery in the case of high-exertion sports.

The operation takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Aesthetic rhinoplasty consists of modifying the shape of the nose through small incisions or openings made inside the nose, or at the base of it in such a way that there is no external scar or it is practically imperceptible.

Does it hurt a lot?
There is a legend that rhinoplasty, both ultrasonic and conventional, is very painful, but this is not true. It hurts almost nothing. Only if you touch it is sore, otherwise you do not need to take any painkillers.
