PROCEDURE

The hymen is composed of fibrous and elastic tissue furrowed by small vessels. When it ruptures, slight bleeding occurs. The cause of hymen rupture is usually sexual activity, although it has been demonstrated that in some unusual circumstances it can be ruptured by inserting a tampon; practicing sports such as cycling, horseback riding or gymnastics, or even spontaneously.

There are three types of hymenoplasty:

Early repair: a hymenal tear is sutured within 15 to 20 days after rupture.
Reconstruction of the hymen from the caruncles or membranous vestiges. This is the most common technique.
Creation of a new membrane by means of a vaginal mucosal portion. This technique can also be combined with the previous one.

What are the problems that can be improved with female intimate surgery?

There are birth problems as well as others added by age, childbirth, accidents, etc. that alter the aesthetics of the female external genitalia. It is common to observe labia minora that are too large, asymmetrical, protruding too much, as well as excess or decreased fat of the mons pubis, hair loss, reduction of the labia majora, and even laxity of the vestibule and vaginal canal. All these situations can affect to a greater or lesser degree the intimate life of patients or even everyday situations such as: going to the gym, going to the doctor’s office, hair removal, or even affect the type of clothes the patient usually wears.

Is female intimate surgery complicated?

Who performs female intimate surgery procedures?

Although there are several techniques described on the subject and they are simple procedures, there are still few professionals who can offer adequate and contrasted results for intimate surgery. In this sense, it is essential that these procedures be performed by specialists with surgical training and sufficient experience in this type of surgery and treatment. Plastic and reconstructive surgery is the only specialty that includes female aesthetic reconstruction in its training. What do these interventions consist of?

The main treatments include reduction and reconstruction of the labia minora; liposuction or lipoinfiltration (depending on whether you want to reduce or increase) of the mons pubis; augmentation of the labia majora; micro hair implants; vaginoplasty or reduction of the thickness of the vagina.

What is Labia Minora Reconstruction?

It is a small procedure that removes excess mucosa from the lips, giving symmetry and harmony, with a more youthful and aesthetic appearance, without affecting sensitivity. It is performed under local anesthesia, on an outpatient basis, with a recovery period of 3 to 5 days.

What is Liposculpture of the pubis?

It is a procedure in which excess fat can be eliminated or volume can be added, as the case may be, to the mons pubis. It is performed under local anesthesia or sedation, on an outpatient basis, and a bandage must be worn for 7 to 10 days.

What does labia majora augmentation consist of?

It is a surgery in which the labia majora can be filled with fat from the same patient or with hyaluronic acid. We practice it in cases in which age and other factors generate loss of turgor and volume of the labia majora.

Is it possible to perform micro grafts of pubic hair?

Yes. Loss of pubic hair can affect the aesthetics of the area and give an appearance of senility. In these necessary cases it is feasible to make micro implants to improve density or fill specific areas. Nowadays it is more in disuse as it is fashionable to have shaved groins and/or pubis.

What does Vaginoplasty consist of?

Childbirth, age, weight and other factors can cause laxity of the vaginal canal, which is progressive and can affect the quality of intimate relations. In this situation can be corrected by a simple surgery, in which we narrow the vaginal canal and get a more youthful appearance and with the strength and tone that had in youth.

What is required to carry out these procedures?

Obviously a previous assessment by the cosmetic surgeon, and in case the repair is necessary, a medical history must be taken and a blood test must be requested. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or sedation. After the procedure, you will be observed for a couple of hours and then you can go home. Normal work can be resumed after 5 to 7 days, exercise, sports and intimate relations after one month.

Can the hymen be left as if it were a virgin?

Yes. This procedure called Hymenoplasty is very popular among women whose culture forces them to marry as virgins, that is to say, without having had previous relations.

What does Hymenoplasty consist of and does it hurt?

Small cuts are made in the vaginal introitus, that is, the entrance of the vagina, and the vaginal mucosa is sutured so that the entrance of the vagina is closed as it was before intercourse. It is not painful.
